I'm thinking about having a swimming pool built, what should I think about?
There are many things to consider when thinking about having a swimming pool built, these of course include budget, but other things to think about included size of swimming pool, permitted space available, design, access and final finishes.
A swimming pool is a major build project and there are so many options open to you, but we are experienced swimming pool builders and will happily visit with you and help you through the whole process from start to finish.
We predominately build and specialise solid block built swimming pools as we know these will last much longer, are much stronger and stable.
Can my old swimming pool be renovated?
Yes, definitely! As long as your swimming pool structure is still sound of course, then swimming pool renovation is definitely something we can do and it will transform the look of any tired old swimming pool.
If you are concerned about the structure don't worry, call us and we will arrange a visit to inspect the swimming pool and tell you what options are available. Well built swimming pools are stronger than you think.
We have renovated a swimming pool, that the new home owners didn't even know was there, after finding it buried in the grounds. It hadn't been used for well over 20yrs and now they have a swimming pool they are using and that once again looks great.
Why has my swimming pool turned green?
The most common cause of a pool turning green is due to an algae infection. There can be a number of factors that can contribute to this problem, however it can be resolved with correct treatment of the water, just give a call to arrange a visit if you are having trouble.
If your water management is correct and you are experiencing a reoccurring problem then one of our engineers will be able to look deeper in to the cause of the problem and fix it for you.
What is the most cost effective way to run my swimming pool?
There are a number of ways that you can run your swimming pool more economically, these include to correctly manage and balance the water in your swimming pool. Ensure that your plant room equipment is well maintained and serviced, such as having the sand in your filter changed every 3 years and having your pump serviced at the end of every season. Think of it as the same as your car needing an annual MOT or service.
Heating a swimming pool can be one of the highest costs, so consider upgrading to an Air Sourced Heat Pump, these are the most economical way to heat a swimming pool. Also swimming pool covers in good condition will help, as any heat in the swimming pool will be conserved, meaning the heating system won't have to work quite so hard.
Help! I think my swimming pool has a leak?
Swimming pools can lose water naturally due to evaporation, but if you have noticed a drop in the water level for no reason then it is worth having a swimming pool engineer visit. Most leaks aren't visible as your pipework is buried underground.
Our engineers will be able to use their skills and knowledge of swimming pools to systematically problem solve to get to the route of the cause.
So if you are worried, call us now to arrange a visit.
What types of swimming pool lining options are available?
Swimming pool 'lining' or interior finishes, come in ever more colours, finishes and options than ever before. The type of construction of your swimming pool, new or old, will ultimately determine what finishing options are available to you.
Generally the main two types are a waterproof concrete shell finished with either paint or tiling/mosaics, or a non waterproofed shell that will container a liner which creates the decorative finish and the waterproof membrane.
What should I do with my swimming pool over winter?
Outdoor swimming pools should be closed down properly at the end of the swimming season.
This is done to avoid damage to the swimming pool itself, the pipework and the plant room equipment. The winterisation process ensures that the complete system will be protected during the period the swimming pool is left unused, these precautions are taken to ensure that occurrences such as chemical degradation and temperature related damage will not affect the swimming pool or its equipment.
Are there any non-chemical options for keeping my swimming pool clean?
There are a range of sanitisation methods available to keep your swimming pool water clean and sparkling, but they all rely on a chemical in some form, like chlorine, to sanitise the water.
There are options available, such as UV or Ozone systems, that will enable you to reduce the amount of chemicals required.
If this is something of interest to you, then please contact us and we can talk through your needs and the options available.
Do JHS Pools deal with Hot Tubs?
Yes, we can create the necessary base, supply and install hot tubs too.
What is the difference between liquid chlorine and chlorine tablets?
Liquid chlorine is generally an un-stabilised form and is no more than chlorine and water mixed together. In this form it gets depleted by uv rays quickly so is not ideal for regular outdoor swimming pool sanitisation. Also with liquid chlorine, considerations such as storage and a shorter shelf life should be taken in to account
Chlorine tablets or granular forms contain a stabilising agent that slows down UV degradation, creating longer sanitisation, enables a more accurate dosing and best for domestic use especially outdoor pools. Also storage is easier and it has a longer shelf life.
In summery, all swimming pool sanitisation comes back to swimming pool management, water balance, testing and understanding the levels of all aspects of your swimming pool water.
